Buddy Buddy

Buffalo, New York, USA

Brandon Davis & Patrick Finan
How has Buddy Buddy played a role in your local community and music scene?

The sense of queer community within our city felt like it was slowly dying, for myriad reasons that aren’t uncommon in cities across the country.

We wanted to bring new energy, new music, and the sense of welcome, belonging and kindness we have experienced from the community outside of Buffalo at queer festivals and parties Honcho and Honcho Campout, Wrecked, The Carry Nation, and Sole Rehab. Since our first party, we’ve seen a crowd of locals and people from cities across the Northeast. There’s also a growing familial connection between Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Rochester. With every party, there’s a stronger sense of community, new connections, and new friendships. We hope to make every party more inclusive, and that perhaps a few people will be inspired to start something queer, too.

What can we see, hear and experience at your parties?

Buddy Buddy takes place in Buffalo’s longest-running LGBTQ+ space, The Underground Niteclub. You can expect a packed, dark, sweaty club; a roster of DJs representing the best of the queer underground scene; lighting installations that change with each party; a growing representation of people across the queer spectrum; and sex positivity. We don’t allow photos, so people are free to be who they are.

Tell us some DJs / artists you’re digging at the moment?

Too many to name, but we’ve been listening to all three volumes of Trax Only’s Soft Touch Express on repeat.

What do you think will become of the music industry & the underground music scene post-pandemic?

We’re craving more than ever that total freedom and escape that can only happen on the dancefloor. While changes and shakeups are inevitable, there’s resiliency in the music, the people, and the community. We have no doubt things will return—stronger than ever and we hope with renewed energy and focus to elevate and support marginalized communities.

Buddy Buddy is a Buffalo, NY-based bi-monthly queer party that showcases leading LGBTQ+ underground house and techno DJs.

This Saturday, Aug. 7th, Buddy Buddy teams up with Sole Rehab to bring the uplifting, rave-tinged sounds of Octo Octa & Eris Drew for this fabulous b2b at Buffalo's unique outdoor Silo City.

Coming soon: The Buddy Buddy Fund will distribute monthly grants to LGBTQ+ creatives in Buffalo with the intent to foster community through parties, art installations, pop-ups, and other events.
